Which Web Browser to Use For Testing Your Website

By Francisco Rodriguez

We all have heard of Internet Explorer, FireFox, Chrome, and Safari. Maybe even Opera or Flock, but have you ever heard of Lunascape? It's just one of many little known Browsers out there on the web that you can use, and like most of them..its free! Just like the popular browsers, these browsers come loaded with features and with access to hundreds of plug-ins, and can be just as functional, if not more than the popular browsers. Below is a list of three browsers I found to be great alternatives to IE, FireFox, or Safari.

Because of inherent differences in browsers the displayed page might appear slightly different in different browsers. If you wish to see how a webpage was actually written, do a right click and choose 'view source'. You will see a clutter of commands and text which do not make any sense at all. The browser converts this clutter into understandable display.

Like most of people, you might have used one or two web browsers. But there are many of them available. Internet Explorer is the most common browser used by most of the people. Other web browsers are Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Opera, and Netscape.

WEB BROWSER PROBLEMS Internet Explorer 8 for example uses a different layout engine, called Trident, so it will display a web page differently to a Gecko web browser. Internet Explorer 6 does not display/support .png files in terms of transparent images (they are displayed as grey pixels instead of see-through pixels). Firefox does not display .wmv video files by default (you need to install a separate piece of software called an Add-On). Some web browsers are naturally cluttered up with Toolbars which means a web page might look perfect on a uncluttered web browser but look awful, and need scrolling, when toolbars are cluttering.

Lunascape 6 Last but not least is Lunascape 6. This one is my favorite out if the three and have actually started using it more often. It is the world's first triple engine browser. Which basically means who can have the performance, speed, and functionality of IE, FireFox, Chrome and Safari all in one browser.

CONCLUSION With the above said, I would strongly recommend you download and install all web browsers. That way you can see exactly how a web page is displayed in a certain web browser. And always keep each web browser up-to-date by either using its CHECK FOR UPDATES feature or by checking its website for update files. The same applies to updating your scripting languages. Check their websites regularly for update files.
